Turning Age Grade Players into Adult Players

Updated: Feb 14

Durham County is looking to support age grade players transition into the adult game and from our age grade registration numbers we can see that there is a big drop off in players as they move from the U16’s into the U18’s age group.

To help support clubs combat this drop off, we are offering grants for clubs to run a “transition event” where your current U16’s have a joint activity with your U17’s in preparation of them being in the same team next season. We would like the activity to include some rugby activity i.e. a training session as well as a social i.e. food post training (it must be different from your normal food offering i.e. pizza delivered).  Grants available for this activity are £150 per club and all we would ask is you to click on the link below, telling us the date of your planned event and you send us a couple of photo’s post event so we can promote on our platforms. Please be aware this activity needs to have taken place by 5th May.

There is also the option to play a joint U16/U17 fixture (you will need to follow regulations and meet the combined team criteria) to receive an extra bolt on grant of £100. If you are looking to play a combined fixture we would ask that it is played on a Friday, Thursday or Saturday evening instead of the normal age grade slot.
