Appreciation for Durham County RFU Volunteers

Thank you to our Durham County RFU Volunteer representative Charles Thoburn for the below write up.

Our club volunteer organisations have a strong and broad connections within our local communities and the majority of our clubs are working together to respond to COVID-19 by supporting the more vulnerable members of our communities and especially from our clubs. As a contact sport, the county and members clubs are taking tentative steps towards reopening socially and for fitness training using guidance and instructions from the Government and our governing body the Rugby Football Union.

During this exceptional period of time many clubs have found that a number of new volunteers are now supporting their facilities through using their work skills or now fully understanding how vitally important volunteering is to ensure clubs can continue to flourish and maintain their facilities to highest standards expected ready for a 'return to rugby'. Our learning continues and once the current lock down ends there will be a need to expand all our volunteer bases to enable full game recovery to be achieved. This will include volunteer support to members both physically and mentally and to ensure our club families welcome all back to their clubs.

The Mitsubishi Volunteer Awards have been selected from those nominated from Durham County RFU clubs and their names passed to the RFU. Our congratulations and thanks to all who were nominated. DCRFU has made our final selection from the nominations which have been sent to the RFU to enable the celebration events to proceed when its safe to hold them.

The 2020 award evenings at Durham and Darlington Mitsubishi dealer franchises plus the RFU Black Tie event @ Twickenham will be held when its is safe to do so.
