DCRFU Schools Union County Cup, the Story so far

Vic Young Schools Union County Cup for Durham County RFU for the 2019/20 season has kicked off.

The first event of the season kicked off on Wednesday 11thSeptember. 3 venues from across the County (Billingham RFC, Blaydon RFC and Horden and Peterlee RFC) hosted the Year 10/11 Boys from 12 different schools.

The following event was hosted on Wednesday 2nd October, but unfortunately the weather had forced one venue to cancel. Due to waterlogged pitches, the year 9 Boys who where due to attend Horden and Peterlee RFC, will have to wait for another available date to be rescheduled.

We are very fortunate that the School Union has invested funding to book the County’s AGP’s for the events, meaning 2 events where still able to be played even with the bad weather. Thanks to Blaydon RFC and Billingham RFC for hosting.

The Schools Union sponsor, Vic Young (South Shields) Ltd also organised for staff to attend the event, bringing a large sign for the players and Young Match Officials (YMO’s) to be photographed with.

Many thanks to all the YMO’s who have attended these events and officiated the games. The standard of refereeing is amazing and we look forward to seeing you more in future games.

Our next event is due to take place on Wednesday 9thOctober, hosting Year 8 Boys, and with the sun shining we should hopefully see all 3 events take place across the County.

We have an amazing 25 schools expected across the venues, so best of luck to the teams and we hope to see you all there!
