Durham County announce Aprils Challenge Cup ticket winners as Keelmans Way School Hebburn

Keelmans Way School Hebburn have been named Durham County’s Aprils ‘Story of the Month’ through the Newcastle 2019 European Club Rugby Finals initiative

This nomination has been brought to us by Rob Coulson who coaches the children at Keelmans Way School in Hebburn. Rob runs a Rugby Training Programme every week and is now referred to as “Rugby Rob” for the children involved.

The pupils at Keelmans Way School have varying disabilities, from learning difficulties to physically disabilities. Rob describes the children as ‘very special’ and ‘inspiring’

Rugby seems to be a sport full of enjoyment for the pupils at the school, with their faces ‘lighting up’ when they get a hold of a rugby ball. The confidence and motivation that the pupils have gained through the Rugby Training Programme has been very worth while for Rob as the coach and Elaine Clarke as teacher at Keelmans Way.

Rugby has helped the pupils learn and develop key skills such as; working in a team, being creative and exploring what they can achieve.

Rob describes running these sessions with ‘sheer happiness’.

Well done to both Rob and Elaine, displaying our rugby core values and helping others find enjoyment through the sport!

The Challenge Cup will kick start the Newcastle 2019 European Club Rugby Finals on Friday May, 10 at 7.45pm at St James’ Park, for more information go to:
