Durham RFU Resident Volunteers Lunch

On Saturday 12th March, Durham County RFU Club Volunteers attended Kingston Park Stadium for the Newcastle Falcons V Saracens match for a day of hospitality and Rugby.

Volunteers from Clubs across the County came together to be celebrated for all their hard work- during Covid-19.

"It is apparent that without the fantastic support of all our club volunteers during 2020 and 2021 then the game of rugby union in Durham County and the clubs which are integral to the game may have taken longer to recover."

Charlie Thoburn - DCRFU Volunteer Coordinator commented.

With the game set for a 3pm kick off, volunteers arrived early at the West Stand for a pre-game meal and drinks.

The event was organised by the DCRFU Volunteer Committee, and supported by the County with Funding and admin assistance. The day was a big success, with 48 volunteers attending joining us for the day.

The day was rounded off with a raffle style draw, with 3 volunteers walking away with a DCRFU OddBalls hat. Coincidentally all 3 winners where sitting in line on the same table!

Our County administrator also walked away with a lovely gift from Hartlepool Rovers volunteers, a bobble hat from the Club.

"The day was a great success; it was lovely to see so many Volunteers that have been so impactful in our Clubs during such a difficult few years. It was a pleasure to meet all the individuals keeping our Clubs going."

Erin Knotts – DCRFU Administrator

Thank you to those Clubs who got behind the event, nominating their valued volunteers and giving them the opportunity to attend and enjoy the event.

We hope that all the Volunteers had a wonderful day and enjoyed the food, rugby and company of the Durham Rugby community.

A shout out to the team at Newcastle Falcons for a great day, service and administrative support.
