Back in the Game Bash - half way point
So far two events have taken place, taking us to the half way point in the DCRFU Back in the Game Bash.
Thank you to South Shields RFC for hosting the 1st of four events.
On Saturday 2nd March players from Washington, Houghton and Newton Aycliffe travelled to South Shields for a 13:00pm Kick Off. The clubs joined together to form 2 large squads and played a game made up of four 20 minute quarters with rolling subs to allow for players to decide how long they wanted to play.
Durham County Referees Society organised David Swainson to referee the game, many thanks to both the Society and Dave for officiating such an event.
Durham Referee Society showed the diversity in their referee’s providing Jason Ashman for round two of Back in the Game Bash at Washington RFC on Friday 8th April. The
event kicked off at 19:00 under lights and on the fantastic AGP at Washington FA Hub.
With the 4 clubs boosting 50 players between them, 3 teams where created for a round robin festival with 40 min’s games and every team getting 80 min’s of rugby. A big thank you to the travelling supporters of Houghton RFC who created a lively atmosphere and Washington for being such fantastic host’s.
The project takes a week off to allow for Easter Weekend and players given time to tell family and friends of their achievements on the field. We resume on Saturday 23rd April with round 3 at Newton Aycliffe RFC (K.O to be confirmed) before rounding up the season at Houghton RUFC on Thursday 28th April with a 19:00 K.O.
All of this would not be possible without the fantastic support of the club volunteers, to say thank you the project has paid for some polo shirts and given a set to each club.
It’s not too late to get involved as a player, referee or volunteer please contact the club closest to you and they will support you getting into our game.
